2025 Calendars

August 2025

For August, 2025, the calendar features the International Friendship Bell located at AK Bissell Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The bell was cast in Kyoto, Japan in 1993, and is a symbol of peace and unity between the United States and Japan.

July 2025

This month features the sculpture by Henry Moore of Nuclear Energy, located on the University of Chicago Campus near the approximate site of Enrico Fermi’s Chicago Pile-1, the world’s first nuclear reactor. The sculpture has been described as representing both the creative (symbolized by the pillars with arches like a protective cathedral on the bottom) and the destructive (mushroom cloud on the top slightly resembling a skull) sides of nuclear energy.

Also included in this month’s calendar are some significant Atomic Events in July which, of course, includes the Trinity Test on July 16, 1945. During July, from 1945 through 1990, 72 nuclear tests, both atomospheric and underground, were conducted.

June 2025

This month’s calendar features the superstructure of the Trinity Tower replica in Heritage Park at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A replica of the Gadget is being hoisted up to the top of the tower.

In addition to the calendar, this month presents some of the Atomic Events that occured in June through the years (1920 to 1954) as well as the 135 Atomic Shots that occured between 1946 and 1992.

May 2025

This month’s calendar features the statues of J. Robert Oppenheimer and General Lesie Groves located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

In addition to the photo of Oppenheimer and Groves, this month’s calendar features all 141 atomic shots that occured in May from 1952-1989.

April 2025

This month’s featured image looks southeast across the Columbia River to the B Reactor on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation and the Hanford Reach.

Also this month, you’ll find some interesting atomic events that occured in April over the years as well as 88 atomic shots that occured organized by day.

March 2025

March’s calendar features the M65 Atomic Cannon (“Atomic Annie”) which is right off I-70 outside Junction City, Kansas. This view shows Fort Riley in the distance. The calendar also features some interesting March Atomic Events as well as a complete listing of all atomic shots during March from 1955 through 1984.

This Atomic Annie is located in Freedom Park near Junction City, Kansas, at exit 301 on I-70. The trail to the top of the hill with the cannon has recently been improved and was reopened for visitors.

February 2025

February’s calendar features the UMTRCA Disposal Site in Green River, UT. Union Carbide Corporation constructed a uranium mill in 1957 and operated the facilty until 1961. In three years, the mill processed 183,000 tons of ore and generated an estimated 114,000 cubic yards of radioactive tailings, covering an area of 9 acres to an average depth of 7 feet. The pyramid shape protects the engineered cell containing the contaminated materials.

The calendar also lists some intersting February Atomic Events as well as a complete listing of the 86 atomic shots during February from 1951 to 1968.

January 2025

This month’s featured image is the monument at the Trinity Site on the White Sands MIssile Range, taken during an open house in a rare moment without people nearby. On the reverse, you’ll find a timeline of some significant Manhattan Project and Cold War atomic events in chronological order. Following that is a complete listing of all atomic shots during the month of January day by day.
